Gemini Now Helps Organise Files in Google Drive

News | 02.06.2026

In June 2026, Google announced the general availability of the 'Organise My Files in Drive' feature, which has been in beta since October 2025. Powered by Gemini AI, this feature helps users reduce digital clutter and maintain organized file structures within Google Drive with minimal manual effort.

Gemini analyses the user's existing folder structure and sorting habits to provide tailored suggestions on where to move loose files. Users can access this dedicated interface via the 'Suggest File Moves' option within My Drive or inside any specific folder.

Recommendations are neatly divided into two categories: moving files to existing folders, and creating new folders for related file groupings.

The interface supports several interactive adjustments before any changes are applied. End users can review recommended files via hovercards, select or deselect specific items using checkboxes, and customise destinations or rename proposed folders inline. Once approved, the system performs a batch move and prompts the user to confirm any resulting permission updates. The feature is currently available globally in English.

Availability:

The feature is enabled by default if Gemini for Workspace in Drive is active and smart features are turned on. It is available for the following Google Workspace plans:

  • Business Standard and Business Plus
  • Enterprise Standard and Plus

Note on Usage Limits:

Through 15 July 2026, Workspace customers will receive promotional access to higher usage limits for Organising My Files, allowing teams to fully experiment with the tool. A notification will inform users of this limited higher promotional period, after which per-user usage limits will apply.
