On 22 July 2026, TeamViewer published its global study Path to the Autonomous Workplace, conducted by Sapio Research across 4,200 managers and employees in 9 markets: the U.S., U.K., Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Singapore. The research examines the shift from AI assistance, where people prompt tools and review outputs, to autonomous systems that detect needs and act with progressively less human intervention.
Key findings include:
- Daily AI use: 75% of respondents use AI at least once a day, 64% describe their experience as positive, and only 3% report no noticeable benefits.
- Autonomy accelerating in IT: 26% of IT leaders describe their departments as at least partially autonomous, and 99% would delegate at least one task to AI.
- Confidence drops with authority: 61% prefer AI to take no independent action, and only 5% have no concerns about AI operating without human oversight.
- Autonomy is accepted when visible: 70% are comfortable with autonomous AI as long as they can step in when needed.
- Verification burden: 56% verify AI outputs often or always, spending about two hours per week checking AI-generated work.
- IT leaders expect nearly 40% of digital workplace services to run autonomously by 2030.

For CIOs, CISOs, IT directors and procurement leaders, the study reframes the AI conversation.
