Hexagon Launches HYPERSCAN SR: Wireless 3D Scanner for On-Site Inspection
News | 14.10.2026
Industrial engineering teams increasingly need to inspect parts where they sit — on production lines, at supplier sites, or in service environments — instead of transporting them to a dedicated metrology room. Traditional optical tracking systems require cabling, careful calibration, and a specialist operator, which limits their deployment outside controlled laboratories. Hexagon's new HYPERSCAN SR removes these barriers with a fully wireless, portable scanner that any trained operator can run on the shop floor or in the field.
What was announced
On 12 October 2026, Hexagon's Portable Metrology Division launched HYPERSCAN SR, a fully wireless optical tracking 3D scanner that makes professional measurement accessible beyond the metrology lab. The system combines WiFi 6 connectivity, swappable batteries built into the scanner and tracker, and dynamic optical tracking that unifies the scanner and the part in a single coordinate system — so the scan remains stable even if the part moves or the setup vibrates.
HYPERSCAN SR becomes the new entry point to the HYPERSCAN series, joining HYPERSCAN Ultra and HYPERSCAN Super. All three models share the same workflow and coordinate system, with calibration performed in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory and measurement data certified to VDI/VDE 2634-3.
Dynamic tracking makes HYPERSCAN SR quick to deploy and simple enough for everyday operators to pick up and use. Because it is a fully wireless system, with WiFi 6 and battery power native to the device, teams can bring it into limited-access and power-limited areas that a larger, cabled setup cannot reach
Why this matters
For manufacturing leaders, quality directors, and operations managers, the shift toward in-field inspection reduces downtime, logistics costs, and dependency on specialist operators. HYPERSCAN SR is positioned as a highly affordable entry point to professional scanning, suitable for supplier and incoming-goods quality control, field service, maintenance and overhaul, tooling and fixtures inspection, and decentralised quality assurance across automotive, rail, energy, construction, and general manufacturing sectors.
Because the scanner integrates with robotic automation systems via a standardised integrator kit and shares workflow consistency with the larger HYPERSCAN models, procurement teams gain a scalable path from manual portable inspection to automated inspection cells without retraining operators or rebuilding processes.
