Google Chat Update: Native Message Forwarding Now Available
News | 20.01.2026
Google is rolling out a dedicated message forwarding feature for Google Chat, making it easier to share information across different threads and teams.
This feature helps improve team collaboration through:
- Contextual Sharing: Forwarded messages include the original sender's name and a link to the original message, accessible to those with permission.
- Custom Annotations: You can add your own comments or instructions before sending the forwarded content.
- Cross-Platform Support: Works seamlessly across individual Direct Messages and collaborative Spaces.
At this time, users cannot forward messages:
- From chats where client-side encryption is enabled.
- If organizational policies or admin settings restrict sharing content outside of specific perimeters.
Note that when users forward a message from a DM or group DM, a reminder to protect sensitive information will appear.
