Fortinet Launches Product Carbon Footprint Calculator 2026
News | 30.06.2026
Sustainability has become a board-level priority, yet most IT leaders still lack reliable data on the environmental footprint of their network and security hardware. Without standardized metrics, ESG commitments remain hard to defend.
Fortinet has launched a Product Carbon Footprint Calculator that gives customers verifiable emissions data for individual product configurations. The tool addresses a growing gap in the cybersecurity industry: how to quantify the carbon impact of firewalls, switches, access points, and other infrastructure across their full lifecycle.
What was announced
On June 25, 2026, Fortinet introduced its Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) Calculator, a self-service tool that delivers configuration-level emissions data for Fortinet hardware. The methodology follows the GHG Protocol Product Standard and ISO 14067 guidelines, covering Scope 3 emissions from raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, use phase, and end-of-life.
The calculator enables customers to download PCF reports per SKU and integrate them into corporate ESG disclosures, supplier scorecards, and procurement decision-making. Fortinet stated that the tool will expand to cover additional product families over the coming quarters.
Why this matters
For CIOs, CISOs, and procurement leaders, the regulatory environment is shifting rapidly. CSRD in the EU, SEC climate disclosure rules in the US, and growing supplier transparency demands from large enterprises require auditable carbon data at the product level. Until now, security vendors rarely offered this granularity.
With verifiable PCF data, organizations can:
- Strengthen ESG reporting: back Scope 3 disclosures with vendor-supplied data.
- Optimize procurement: compare configurations based on emissions in addition to performance and cost.
- Meet customer demands: respond to RFPs that increasingly require carbon transparency.
- Reduce risk: align infrastructure choices with internal net-zero roadmaps.
Technical details
- Methodology: GHG Protocol Product Standard and ISO 14067.
- Scope coverage: raw materials, manufacturing, distribution, use phase, end-of-life.
- Output format: downloadable PCF reports per SKU.
- Integration: data suitable for CSRD, SEC, and supplier ESG questionnaires.
- Roadmap: expansion to additional Fortinet product families planned.
- Use cases: procurement scoring, internal carbon accounting, customer disclosures.
Transparency on product emissions is becoming a baseline expectation, not a differentiator. Vendors who provide auditable data give customers a real path to net-zero.
