Google Calendar Expands Event Colour Options with Custom Palettes
News | 17.06.2026
In June 2026, Google commenced the rollout of an update for Google Calendar, significantly improving visual scheduling. Moving beyond the historical limitation of 11 predefined colours, the platform introduces a broader palette to help users categorise individual events and map out their agenda with ease.
Users can now select from 24 updated default options. Furthermore, on Calendar for the web (as well as via the Calendar API), users can define up to 200 custom colours using a full RGB colour picker.
This advanced colour management synchronises seamlessly across both the native web interface and official mobile applications. The update addresses requests from enterprise teams and individual users seeking more nuanced categorisation for meetings, deadlines, and project streams.

Availability: The feature is enabled by default and requires no administrative configuration. It is being deployed to all Google Workspace customers.
The rollout for Rapid Release domains began on 17 June 2026, followed by Scheduled Release domains on 29 June 2026.
