CrowdStrike Expands Project QuiltWorks to Protect SMBs from Frontier AI Risks

News | 19.08.2026

Frontier AI adoption is racing ahead of security controls, and small and midsize businesses are the most exposed. CrowdStrike is now extending its industry coalition, Project QuiltWorks, to SMBs to close the frontier AI vulnerability gap for organizations of every size.

Enterprises have red teams, threat intelligence and dedicated AI security programs. SMBs typically do not. Yet the same generative and agentic AI tools that reshape enterprise workflows also introduce new attack surfaces for smaller companies: shadow AI, prompt injection, model misuse, exposed API keys and data leakage through third-party copilots. The expansion of Project QuiltWorks is designed to make frontier AI risk protection accessible beyond the Fortune 500.

What was announced

CrowdStrike announced the expansion of Project QuiltWorks, its industry coalition focused on closing the frontier AI vulnerability gap, to small and midsize businesses. Originally launched to bring together AI model providers, security vendors and enterprise defenders, the initiative is now opening its resources, threat intelligence and coordinated response practices to SMBs.

Through the expansion, SMBs gain access to shared research on frontier AI vulnerabilities, coordinated disclosure workflows, and guidance from CrowdStrike AI Security Services, including the Frontier AI Readiness and Resilience Service and Shadow AI Visibility Service. The move complements CrowdStrike's SMB-focused Falcon Go and Falcon Pro offerings, extending advanced AI-era protection to organizations that previously lacked the scale to build it internally.

Why this matters

For CIOs, CISOs and IT leaders at mid-market and smaller organizations, the message is direct: adversaries are already using AI to accelerate reconnaissance, phishing and exploit development. The window between disclosure and exploitation is collapsing, and generic security tools cannot keep pace with model-level and agent-level threats.

Project QuiltWorks was built to close the frontier AI vulnerability gap at scale. Extending it to SMBs ensures that every organization, regardless of size, can defend against the same AI-driven adversaries

The expansion gives procurement and security leaders a structured way to align frontier AI risk management with their existing endpoint, identity and cloud security stack, without hiring a dedicated AI security team.

Technical details

  • Coalition access: SMBs join Project QuiltWorks alongside AI model providers, hyperscalers and security vendors.
  • Frontier AI Readiness and Resilience Service: ongoing scans, expert prioritization and guided remediation of AI-related exposures.
  • Shadow AI Visibility Service: discovery of hidden AI tools, agents and activity across endpoint, cloud and SaaS.
  • AI Detection and Response: coverage from models to agents to data and prompts, integrated with the Falcon platform.
  • SMB packaging: aligned with Falcon Go and Falcon Pro for rapid deployment and simplified policy enforcement.
  • Threat intelligence: shared indicators, adversary tracking and coordinated disclosure across the QuiltWorks community.
