AWS and Sofinnova Partners Scale AI Across Life Sciences in 2026
News | 16.06.2026
AWS and Sofinnova Partners join forces to make AI practical for life sciences founders, from drug discovery to commercialization.
Life sciences companies face structural barriers to AI adoption: high infrastructure costs, fragmented tools, and manual research workflows that slow the path from early science to clinic. A new collaboration between Amazon Web Services and Sofinnova Partners, one of Europe's most established life sciences venture capital firms, aims to remove those barriers by combining sector expertise with secure, scalable cloud infrastructure built for regulated research workloads.
What was announced
Sofinnova Partners, headquartered in Paris with offices in London and Milan, has launched a collaboration with AWS to embed AI more deeply across its investment platform and portfolio companies. The collaboration supports Sofinnova.AI, the firm's initiative to integrate AI across sourcing, evaluation, and company building.
At the center of the effort is Sofia, Sofinnova's proprietary AI platform. Until now used internally, Sofia will be extended through a founder-facing version built on AWS. Sofinnova-backed startups will receive tailored AWS resources and technical enablement to accelerate progress from research to development and commercialization.
AI is becoming central to how new therapies are discovered, developed, and brought to patients. Working with AWS reflects both the maturity of this effort and our conviction that the next generation of life sciences leaders will be built differently.
Why this matters
For CIO, CISO, and IT leaders in pharma, biotech, and medtech, the collaboration signals a maturing reference model for running sensitive research workloads in the cloud. AWS already supports 19 of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies, and the Sofia platform demonstrates how AI tooling can be standardized across an investment portfolio rather than rebuilt by each startup.
For procurement leaders, the model lowers entry costs for AI adoption: founders gain access to curated AWS services and a shared analytical platform instead of assembling fragmented tools individually.
Technical details
