Trimble Connect: 2025 Year in Review & Future Horizons
2025 was a landmark year for the Trimble ecosystem. The Softprom team has prepared a review of key Trimble Connect updates, which have evolved from a file-sharing tool into a powerful data management hub. If you work with SketchUp — Trimble's flagship product — these innovations will make your workflow more transparent and productive.
Major 2025 Milestones: From Access Control to Reality Capture
Throughout the year, the focus remained on three critical areas: data security, specialized infrastructure tools, and seamless communication. Here is a recap of the most important changes:
1. Enhanced Control & Data Security
Managing large-scale projects became easier thanks to advanced permission settings:
- File-Level Permissions: you can now control access at the individual file level.
- Folder Permission Inheritance: automated access hierarchy saves administrators' time.
- Permissions Overview: a new interface for instant verification of all project participants' rights.
2. Specialized Civil & Infrastructure Tools
Trimble Connect expanded format support, which is crucial for complex landscape and engineering projects:
- Direct 3D Viewing: for .VCL, .TTM, and .SVD formats directly in the 3D Viewer;
- Terrain Analysis: new Slope Measurement tools and Path Navigation mode for precise planning;
- Reality Capture (TRCPS): managing massive point cloud datasets is now fast and accessible for every team member.
3. Next-Gen Collaboration: BCF & Live Collaboration
Model issue tracking and discussions are now more interactive than ever:
- BCF Topics 3.0: an updated standard for precise issue tracking with unique identifiers;
- Live Collaboration (Beta): real-time interactive collaboration — see markups and measurements from colleagues instantly;
- ‘Follow’ Feature: (coming soon) personalized email notifications for the topics that matter most to you.
Looking Ahead to 2026: Trimble is already preparing updates focusing on automation tools and AI-driven capabilities within Trimble Connect.
