Armis Named as a Representative Vendor in the 2020 Gartner Market Guide for Medical Device Security Solutions

PALO ALTO, CA — February 11, 2021 — Armis®, the leading agentless device security platform, announced it has been named as a Representative Vendor in the 2020 Gartner Market Guide for Medical Device Security Solutions.

Medical device security solutions enable organizations to securely manage Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices, ensure IoMT endpoint and data security, and perform asset discovery.

The variety and scale of security risks in an IoMT-rich healthcare environment is high, with a large and complex threat surface. Most sensor-based things have minimal internal computing resources, with limited opportunities for antivirus, encryption and other forms of protection within these things.

According to Gregg Pessin, Sr. Director Analyst at Gartner, “most HDO CIOs and CISOs do not have a complete and accurate inventory of the medical devices within their enterprises. This thwarts efforts to continuously protect their healthcare delivery environments from security threats.”

Ransomware and malware attacks on hospitals have increased during Covid. These go beyond theft of personal health information (PHI) to the disruption of hospital operations and putting patient care and lives at risk. The growing number of connected medical devices have increased the threat landscape, with bad actors exploiting vulnerabilities in patient devices and legacy systems. Armis is purpose built to help customers identify vulnerable medical devices and reduce and eliminate medical device downtime. We are pleased to be recognized by Gartner as a Representative Vendor addressing this critical need for HDOs.

As described in the report, “HDOs have, on their own, developed a set of requirements needed to address the inherent risk for medical devices operating within their environments. The vendors in this market space have responded with capabilities designed to meet these requirements.” Major functional requirements for medical device security solutions include:

  • Asset Discovery
  • Risk Analysis
  • Risk Mitigation
  • Event Detection and Response
  • Device Analytics
